Robert’s Story: BS from Bluefield College at Age 18

I love when parents send in their teen’s stories- it always feels so inspirational to read how they made it happen. Today’s share is from Brenna whose son Homeschooled for College Credit in high school and is now a college graduate at age 18! Student loan debt: $0

Brenna writes

Thank you so much for all you’ve done to spread valuable and reliable information. Was done debt-free. Your book and website are truly amazing! My son just earned his bachelor’s degree at 18.

  • Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management from Bluefield College
  • Summa cum laude with a 4.0.
  • Named outstanding honor graduate for his major.

We are so proud! We just traveled to his school so he could walk with the graduating class at the commencement ceremony. When he started his high school years, we didn’t intend on him earning his BS degree so young. I just wanted him to get a couple of credits out of the way.  We tried out CLEP, but he wasn’t a great test taker.  We mostly used dual enrollment online, but we also used things like the TEEX courses to transfer in. He never took more than 3 classes at a time, sometimes only 1. It was never overwhelming, and he still had plenty of time for extracurriculars.  He finished his last year of AWANA with the Citation Award.  He played violin in the local youth orchestra and competed in NCFCA speech and debate.  He played sports and started a small mowing business.  By the time he finished high school, he had 108 credits.  He just needed 4 more classes to finish his degree, so he enrolled as an online degree-seeking student for the fall.  He spread those remaining classes out over 2 semesters.  He now has a BS degree in organizational management with a minor in business administration from Bluefield College.

  1. Thankful for this information here on this site. Now trying to organize and plan, seems a little bit overwhelming to start. I just bought the book and can’t wait to read.

    1. Kesha, yes, you will start off feeling overwhelmed. But, little by little you’ll find small ways (and then maybe big ones) to bring college credit into your homeschool! If your teen earns even ONE college credit in high school, they’re ahead! So, you really can’t mess up. It’s all upside 😉 You can message me anytime.
