(effective January 2020, Charter Oak State College no longer accepts Coopersmith for college credit)
Coopersmith is essentially a guided self-paced learning program followed by a final exam. You’ll prepare using their materials and take their final exam. Passing the final exam is the only thing you need to do to get college credit.
The cost is low, at only $50 per credit. Most courses are 3–4 credits.
The format is simple: read the content, study on your own, take the test. Exams can be taken at any time by logging into your account. Exams are proctored through SmarterServices and are included in the course cost. There is no additional proctoring fee. If you would like more detailed information on the process, Coopersmith provides a page with detailed steps.
Coopersmith offers SO MANY CLASSES. I found a few courses in the NCCRS database that weren’t on the website, but upon asking, Coopersmith assured me that I could take any of their classes even if the title wasn’t on their website.
Coopersmith classes are all slightly different. Some are multiple choice, others are short answer. Members report that Coopersmith is always happy to answer questions about the exam format.
This list is from the NCCRS database listing all of their courses approved for college credit.
