2. Colleges that don’t offer dual enrollment year-round but offer special “summer only” programs worth college credit.
This list below is special because these colleges and universities don’t normally offer dual enrollment outside of the summer program. In other words, summer is the only opportunity to earn college credit with them while you’re in high school.
In order to make this list, all the following conditions must apply:
- Open to high school students.
- Open to homeschool students.
- The college is regionally accredited.
- The course(s) generate college credit.
- The credits are recorded on the university’s transcript.
- The course generates a letter grade.
Unlike our regular dual enrollment lists that must offer distance learning, we appreciate that many students enjoy traveling in the summer or to campus for a short immersive experiences.
Note that some colleges offer online, some offer residential (sleep-away in dorms), and some are “commuter” which are intended for students to drive in for the day. Commuter programs do not offer housing.
