What We Lost in 2025

Each year, we see programs come and go. I work hard to stay on top of this because Internet archives can send you to dead ends. In this post, I want to list the programs and courses we LOST in 2025, because you may still find outdated websites or posts that reference them. This is my effort to keep everyone up to date.

OnlineDegree.com Program

OnlineDegree was a free online program evaluated by NCCRS for college credit. They offered about a dozen free classes and only charged a $9 proctor fee! These classes were guaranteed to transfer into a small number of accredited partner colleges.

Saylor Academy (9 Courses)

Saylor Academy is a nonprofit organization offering free ACE-evaluated college credit courses. They removed the following 9 courses from their catalog in 2025. The company still offers dozens of free college courses; the only fee associated with the course is a $9 remote proctor fee per attempted final exam. University of Mobile (Alabama)

The Christian university has offered a “First Course Free” dual enrollment program since 2020, but unfortunately, that has ended! Previously, any homeschool high school student from any state could take any 3-credit college course online for free. This one will really be missed! LINK

Anna Maria College (Massachusetts)

The dual enrollment program has undergone a radical change! Previously, any homeschool high school student from any state could take two free online dual enrollment courses per semester for each semester of 11th and 12th grade. Resourceful families were able to accumulate a lot of value from the program, but the NEW program now only allows a TOTAL of two courses for free. All other aspects of the program remain unchanged. GED Exam (college credit only)

The GED exam’s four sections are each worth potential college credit, but are all set to expire on 12/31/2025. It’s unclear at this time if GED will offer the college credit option in 2026. The exam has been worth college credit since 2014.

Texas A&M Engineering Extension (courses)

TEEX offers a huge catalog of entirely free college credit courses. Unfortunately, they dropped a lot of our favorites this year, including the cybersecurity series I often write about.
