I’m calling this the “Mommy-Made Scholarship”—real savings created through resourceful planning with HS4CC principles. Unlike writing essays and luck, this guaranteed scholarship is completely in your control. Cassie from Texas reduced her son’s tuition by $40,000 before he ever stepped on campus.

The Mommy-Made Scholarship: Cassie’s HS4CC Success Story
Homeschooling for College Credit (HS4CC) has always been about empowering families to take control of their educational journeys, saving time and money while creating incredible opportunities for their students. Today, I want to share Cassie’s inspiring story—a testament to the life-changing impact of HS4CC principles and a true celebration of the “Mommy-Made Scholarship.”
Cassie Homeschools for College Credit in Texas. Her son graduated high school with a diploma and an Associate in Science degree from Houston Community College. His transcript was designated “core complete,” meaning Texas A&M University (TAMU) accepted all 60 of his credits—an accomplishment that saved their family a staggering $40,000 in tuition costs. To mark this incredible achievement, Cassie presented her son with a “homeschool scholarship” of $40,000 at his graduation party. (LOVE THAT!!)
And he didn’t stop there. Over the summer, he passed another CLEP exam, which TAMU also accepted, further accelerating his academic journey. Though he was admitted as a freshman, his earned credits quickly bumped him to junior status.
PRO TIP: To preserve your freshman admissions status and shorten your time in college, accumulate as much college credit as possible before graduating high school. Once matriculated (enrolled), your teen’s rank will be adjusted to reflect their stock pile of college credit!
This not only saved time but also gave him an advantage in TAMU’s football ticket pull system—an exciting perk for any Aggie (IYKYK). He even got to experience the thrill of being on ESPN’s Game Day show!
But transitioning to life as an 18-year-old junior wasn’t without its challenges. Cassie shared that her son’s upper-level courses were tough, and his first semester was a whirlwind of football games, a part-time job, and adjusting to the freedom of college life. Despite the challenges, he finished the semester with a 3.0 GPA—impressive, considering he hadn’t yet mastered the art of balance. Cassie joked, “I’m fairly certain he never sleeps!”
Her son is currently an Accounting major at TAMU’s prestigious Mays Business School—his dream school. Thanks to his strong academic record, TAMU awarded him an academic scholarship, adding to the massive financial savings Cassie and her family achieved through dual credit, CLEP exams, and scholarships. In total, they estimate saving over $100,000 toward his degree.
Cassie emphasized the critical role HS4CC played in their journey. “I appreciate all the helpful info gleaned from HS4CC! Really can’t say THANK YOU enough for all the information shared through your emails and Facebook,” she said. Her son earned his associate’s degree for less than $3,000 thanks to the resources and strategies she learned from HS4CC. At his high school graduation, he proudly wore the HS4CC honor cord, a symbol of the hard work and resourceful planning that went into his success.

While the academic accomplishments are impressive, Cassie also acknowledged the personal growth her son is navigating. Adjusting to the demands of upper-level coursework and balancing academics with the excitement of college life has been a learning curve. Cassie reflected, “He was ready academically, just not ready to study. Things have always come easily for him, and he put more effort into experiencing the freedom of living on his own and enjoying college life than he did on his studies. UGH.”
Despite these growing pains, Cassie’s son has continued to thrive. He recently started a new job at a local radio station while working toward his Accounting degree. With prior experience as a Financial Analyst, Cassie is hopeful this role may count as an internship. While he’s still working to find his place in business student organizations, she’s confident he’ll make the most of every opportunity—especially with the foundation HS4CC helped him build.
Cassie’s story is a shining example of what’s possible when parents take charge of their teen’s education. The Mommy-Made Scholarship isn’t just about saving money—it’s about creating opportunities, opening doors, and preparing students to achieve their dreams. With HS4CC, families like Cassie’s can confidently navigate the path to college success, armed with the tools and strategies to make it happen.
Congratulations to Cassie and her son on their incredible achievements! We’re honored to have been a part of their journey and can’t wait to see what’s next for this driven, resourceful, and inspiring family.
