Graduation season is always emotional, but this year was extra special for HS4CC in Michigan parent Amy. Her daughter didn’t just celebrate one milestone—she celebrated two. In an extraordinary achievement, this homeschool student graduated from college and high school, and she’s already been accepted to law school at Liberty University for this coming fall. How’d she do that? I’m glad you asked!
When Amy began homeschooling her daughter for high school, she had one big goal: to maximize her daughter’s education using dual enrollment. Amy shared with me that she took some college classes in high school but was disappointed when they didn’t transfer to her college of choice, so she knew she wanted something better for her daughter—a plan with purpose.
That’s when she discovered Homeschooling for College Credit (HS4CC).
“I found HS4CC during my research and my mind was blown away by all the things students had accomplished,” Amy shared. With the support and strategies she found through the HS4CC community, she put her daughter on a college-credit-earning path right from the start.
Amy’s daughter began her college journey through Arizona State University’s Universal Learner (ASU UL) program. The ASU UL program is a smart (and popular) program used by a lot of families in our community because it’s a low-risk way to earn college in high school. Students sign up for a class ($25) and then at the end of the semester, if they like the grade, they can pay to have it added to their official ASU student transcript ($400). HS4CC calls this “GPA protection” because if your student doesn’t do well, doesn’t like a class, or just wants to drop it, you can do that without harming their GPA or academic record. Since there is no paper trail until after you see your grade, this flexibility lets students try classes that can be too risky for regular dual enrollment.
At first, Amy’s daughter thought she might want to pursue engineering, so they built a degree plan around that. After taking a programming course, she realized engineering wasn’t her passion after all—an incredibly valuable discovery to make in high school instead of halfway through a college degree!
With that new insight, she pivoted toward legal studies and found a great program at a local university. With ASU UL, transfer planning, and a lot of hard work, they realized she had a shot at earning her bachelor’s degree at the end of her senior year. But the story doesn’t end there. She’s already been accepted into Liberty University School of Law and is currently deciding whether to begin this fall or next. Either way, her path is clear—and it started with a mom who wanted to give her daughter more than the traditional high school experience.
Amy writes, “We wanted to personally thank you for your dedication to the homeschooling community. HS4CC was such a support to us on this journey.”
You’re very welcome, Amy! And thank you for sharing your story so others can follow in your footsteps!
Correction: This family Homeschools for College Credit in Michigan, not Kentucky as originally stated.
