Happy Story: Write On To to a Debt-Free Degree

Last year, Bonnie shared her excitement in the Homeschooling for College Credit (HS4CC) community as her daughter, Chloe, graduated high school with an impressive 57 college credits. Fast forward to today, Chloe’s story is a testament to the power of early college credit and how it can transform a student’s academic journey.

Chloe began her college journey in Fall 2024 to pursue a degree in Christian Counseling. Thanks to the 57 credits she earned during high school, 51 of which were accepted by her college, Chloe entered as a second-semester sophomore. Having completed most of her general education requirements, she’s already diving into her core counseling courses—a rarity for most first-year students. This head start not only sets Chloe up to graduate early but also positions her to seamlessly transition into a master’s program, significantly reducing the time and cost of her education.

But Chloe isn’t just excelling in her studies—she’s also making waves as a published author. During her first semester of college, Chloe published her second book, which joins her debut work on Amazon under her name, Chloe McKinley. Writing has always been a passion for Chloe, and she saw an opportunity to use her talent not just for creative expression but as a practical way to fund her education. Her second book, written with this goal in mind, is helping to offset her college expenses while building her personal brand as an author.

Bonnie credits Chloe’s ability to juggle her studies and creative pursuits to the foundation laid during her HS4CC journey. “Having all of her gen eds done has given her so much freedom,” Bonnie shared. “She’s able to focus on what she loves—both her major and her writing—without feeling overwhelmed by a heavy course load.” This freedom also allows Chloe to make meaningful connections in her counseling program and get involved in extracurricular activities that align with her future career goals.

Chloe’s story is an inspiring example of what’s possible with careful planning and strategic use of college credit in high school. By completing 57 college credits before graduating high school, she has saved her family thousands of dollars in tuition, avoided unnecessary student debt, and opened doors to opportunities she might not have had otherwise. Now, she’s on track to earn her degree faster and more affordably while pursuing her dreams.

For other families in the HS4CC community, Chloe’s success highlights the importance of leveraging resources and opportunities to help students achieve their goals. Whether it’s through dual enrollment, credit by exam, or other creative approaches, HS4CC families can empower their teens to graduate high school with a significant advantage.
