AI-Friendly Course Titles & Keywords on Your Homeschool Transcript

When a homeschool transcript is reviewed by AI—especially through systems used in college admissions—clear, standardized, and recognizable course title keywords are essential. These help AI identify and categorize courses correctly for academic evaluation and eligibility.

Core Subjects

Colleges that validate or evaluate your transcript are all looking for core subjects. Use core subject titles and keywords that align with standard high school graduation and college admission requirements:

  • English/Language Arts: English 9, English 10, American Literature, British Literature, Composition, Rhetoric, Writing
  • Math: Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Precalculus, Trigonometry, Statistics, Calculus
  • Science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Anatomy & Physiology
  • Social Studies / History: World History, U.S. History, Government, Civics, Economics, Geography, Sociology, Psychology
  • Foreign Language: Spanish I, French I, Latin I, American Sign Language I, etc.

Rigor & College-Level Indicators

Use these when appropriate to highlight advanced coursework:

  • AP (e.g., AP Biology) only when your course is approved by The College Board.
  • Honors (e.g., Honors Algebra II) as determined by the parent
  • Dual Enrollment (e.g., ENG 111 – Writing & Inquiry) as provided by the college.

Other Useful Tags / Descriptors

AI looks for recognizable academic formatting:

  • Credits: 1.0 credit, 0.5 credit (never fractions)
  • Grade Level: 9th Grade, 11th Grade
  • Grading Scale: (e.g., A = 90–100)
  • GPA: Include weighted and unweighted GPA when possible

Recognizable Course Titles

Avoid vague, quirky, or brand-name-specific course names. Instead, clearly identify the subject in the title and use industry-standard phrasing. Course titles shouldn’t include exam brand names (CLEP, DSST) but instead should provide the subject studied.

🔎 PRO TIP: If a curriculum covers more than one subject, split it into two transcript lines with appropriate credit (e.g., Notgrass = 1 credit history, 1 credit English).
