My name is Logan Morris. I am 16 years old and have been on my Homeschooling for College Credit journey for three years now. I did Classical Conversations (A homeschooling curriculum and community) for most of my life, and there I received plenty of high school-level education by the time I was 15 to start exclusively doing college.
I could do this because of my wonderful mother, Brandi Morris. She has always looked after my schooling, keeping me as ahead of the curve as possible. She started me off with a class at Southeast University. I liked it.
One of the main reasons I think I ended up liking this class is because she did it with me. We sat side by side as she helped me through taking proper, useful notes and did it with me on her own paper. This helped me see that college-level work was manageable, especially since I was already used to a challenging curriculum. We started doing more on top of my Classical Conversations (CC) work. When I was 14, I was doing a couple college classes per semester and at the end of that year, my mom asked me “What would you think of switching to only doing college?”. I had a lot of questions.
What are the benefits? How would that compare to what I’m doing now? We sat down and she answered all my questions (She did an unbelievable amount of research) in great detail. We decided that I would stop doing high school (as I had plenty of high school credits) and start doing full time Dual Enrollment at Liberty University.
I had one main reason for doing this. It was a massive headstart. Since I switched to doing only college, I’m on track to complete about two-thirds of my bachelor’s degree in business by the time I graduate high school. This is much easier to do at Liberty University Online compared to other colleges because they allow you to use Study.com and Sofia to take your classes fast and they transfer into Liberty credits. The only limit is that you take 25% of your classes from their catalog. Study.com and Sofia let you knock out courses as fast as possible for incredibly cheap. I usually complete them in two weeks and a couple days. That’s about 9 credits per quarter and 18 per semester!
Although I’m only doing college for my academics, I’ve taken on several extracurricular activities; Debate club, blacksmithing for 2 hours once a week, and an aircraft mechanic workshop for all of Friday. Why do I mention this? Because you can do it, too. Parents, if your kid is ambitious, and if you’re both ready to work hard and stay committed, you can do this, too. But both of you have to be all in, all semester long (Until summer, of course). Parents, you need to constantly be doing research to find the best options for your kid and encouraging them to strive for greatness. And teens, you need to be willing to do the work. If your parents can get you there, you can complete the course.
So I ask you, will you push yourself to the edge as I have or will you stay in your comfort zone?
