Great question! Short answer: yes. Let me share with you why that’s true to help you with future classes.
When a student takes a college class from a regionally accredited college, they are held to a minimum Carnegie hours standard, so there will never be a question as to whether or not your teen “did enough” to earn the 3 college credits. As such, a 3 credit college course also generates enough Carnegie hours to count as 1 full high school credit, so all the details of the hours are worked out at the college level long before the course is ever offered to the public. By the time your teen takes it, it’s undergone the necessary scrutiny. The number of weeks is not what the college is working from, it’s the number of hours. As such, you’ll see 3-credit college courses ranging from 4 weeks (my local community college offers these) up to the more standard 16-week traditional term.
If your teen passes a 3-credit college course, they have earned 1 high school credit.
